The critically acclaimed 2D animated family comedy by Sergio Pablos revolves about a postman who races through the snow alongside the most well-known toymaker in the world. The first Netflix original to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature lost to Toy Story 4.
In 2019, Sergio Pablos made his directorial debut with the animated Christmas adventure comedy film Klaus. The film is released by Netflix and is produced by The SPA Studios. Norm Macdonald (in his final film role released during his lifetime), Joan Cusack, Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, Rashida Jones, Will Sasso, Neda Margrethe Labba, and Sergio Pablos (in a dual role) are among the voices of the traditionally animated film, which was co-directed by Carlos Martinez Lopez and co-written by Zach Lewis and Jim Mahoney. The tale, which takes place in a fictional 19th-century setting and serves as an alternative origin story for Santa Claus separate from the actual Saint Nicholas of Myra, centers on a postman assigned to an isolated settlement in the Far North who meets a reclusive toymaker (Klaus).

The 2020 mystery film Enola Holmes stars Millie Bobby Brown as the titular character, the teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes, the well-known Victorian-era detective. The first book in Nancy Springer’s The Enola Holmes Mysteries series is adapted into the screenplay by Jack Thorne, which Harry Bradbeer directs. In the movie, Enola goes to London in an attempt to locate her mother, but instead she embarks on an exciting journey and befriends a fugitive lord in an effort to unravel a secret that poses a threat to the whole nation. The movie also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Sam Claflin, and Henry Cavill in addition to Brown.
3. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio
Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson are the directors of Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, a stop-motion animated musical dark fantasy picture from 2022. Patrick McHale and del Toro wrote the screenplay. The drawings by Gris Grimly for a 2002 reprint of The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, the 1883 Italian classic that Matthew Robbins and del Toro modified[7] for the story, had a significant effect. The experiences of Pinocchio, a wooden puppet that comes to life as the son of its carver Geppetto, are reenacted in the movie. The film, which is set in interwar fascist Italy,[8] features Ewan McGregor, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton in addition to Gregory Mann’s voice as Pinocchio and David Bradley’s as Geppetto. Prior to his passing in 2024, Gustafson’s last motion picture credit was Pinocchio.[9]

Directed by Trish Sie, The Sleepover is an American action comedy film from 2020 that was written by Sarah Rothschild. Sadie Stanley, Erik Griffin, Joe Manganiello, Ken Marino, Cree Cicchino, Lucas Jaye, Enuka Okuma, Erik Griffin, and Malin Åkerman are among its cast members. In order to save her parents, who have been kidnapped by criminals who want her mother—a former master thief who is now living with her family under witness protection—to carry out one last heist for them, the girl and her best friend team up with her younger brother and his sleepover companion. Netflix released the movie on August 21, 2020.

Miguel Arteta is the director of the 2021 American family comedy film Yes Day, which is based on the children’s book of the same name by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld. Justin Malen wrote the screenplay and screen plot for the movie. Jenna Ortega, Édgar Ramírez, and Jennifer Garner star.
The film debuted on Netflix on March 12, 2021. Critics gave it mixed reviews, noting faults with the writing and humor but applauding the acting (especially Ortega’s). Ortega received a nomination for Best Actress in a Feature Film at the 2021 Imagen Awards.
6. The Christmas Chronicles
In the film The Christmas Chronicles, sister and brother Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) recount how their Christmas Eve plot to get a picture with Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) unfolds into a voyage beyond what most children could have imagined. They wait for Santa to arrive, then they break into his sleigh, making it crash and almost ruin Christmas. In order to preserve Christmas before it’s too late, Kate and Teddy collaborate with Santa—whom you’ve never seen before—and his devoted Elves as their crazy night progresses.
7. A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon
Aardman Animations’ 2019 stop-motion animated science fiction comedy film Farmageddon is a Shaun the Sheep movie. Based on a concept by Richard Starzak, the movie is written by Mark Burton and Jon Brown and directed by Richard Phelan and Will Becher (in their feature directing debuts). Based on the claymation television series Shaun the Sheep, a spinoff from the Wallace and Gromit short film A Close Shave, it is a stand-alone sequel to Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015). This marks the debut of both Aardman’s and stop-motion animation as a genre. Amalia Vitale, David Holt, and Chris Morrell are among the new cast members. Shaun and the flock come across a charming extraterrestrial with amazing abilities in the movie when it crashes close to Mossy Bottom Farm. To keep her out of the Ministry for Alien Detection’s clutches, they need to figure out a means to get her back home.
8. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
The 2022 animated adventure comedy-drama Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is an American production, distributed by Universal Pictures and produced by DreamWorks Animation. The film was written by Paul Fisher, Tommy Swerdlow, and Tom Wheeler and directed by Joel Crawford. It is the sixth episode and soft reboot[6] of the Shrek film series, and it is the sequel to the 2011 spin-off film Puss in Boots. The voice cast of Shrek 2 (2004) features Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek reprising their roles as the main character and Kitty Softpaws, respectively. New cast members include Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, John Mulaney, Wagner Moura, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Anthony Mendez. The plot follows Puss in Boots, who teams up with Kitty and Perrito to find the Last Wish of the fallen Wishing Star in order to restore eight of his nine lives. It is set after the events of Shrek Forever After (2010). While a menacing wolf pursues Puss, they compete with other fairy tale characters to find the same treasure.
9. Nimona
Based on a script by Lloyd Taylor and Robert L. It is based on ND Stevenson’s 2015 graphic novel of the same name. The movie, which takes place in a science fiction setting with Middle Ages influences, stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the lead shapeshifter Ballister and Riz Ahmed as her boss and former knight. Eugene Lee Yang and Frances Conroy provide supporting performances.
With an initial release date of 2020, it was originally slated to be directed by Patrick Osborne and produced by Blue Sky Studios. It was postponed several times after the Walt Disney firm acquired Blue Sky’s parent firm, 21st Century Fox, and ultimately canceled in light of Blue Sky’s April 2021 shutdown. But the next year, Annapurna Pictures brought the project back to life, announcing Quane and Bruno as directors, DNEG Animation handling the animation, and Netflix gaining global distribution.

With a global box office receipt of $1.36 billion, the movie shattered numerous records, becoming the first video game-based film to make over $1 billion and the highest opening weekend ever for an animated picture. In addition, it became the highest-earning Illumination production, the third-highest animated film, and the second-highest grossing movie of 2023. Based on Nintendo’s Mario video game series, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an animated adventure comedy released in 2023 in the United States. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel, it was distributed by Universal and produced by Universal Pictures, Illumination, and Nintendo. The movie tells the origin story of Mario and Luigi, two Italian-American plumber brothers who are separated after entering a another reality and becoming caught up in a conflict between Princess Peach’s Mushroom Kingdom and Bowser’s Koopas.
